Special Series at Santa Fe Community Yoga Center (SFCYC) in April2008:

Back Body Yoga:  Get into your back body for to find support, flexiblity, ease, and grace.

(reports say it may even help you park your car.)

Stand up tall. Show some spine. Watch your back. Don’t get all bent out of shape. Put your back into it. Some will credit the ancient Chinese sages and some the ancient Yogis: almost anyone will tell you a strong, flexible, dynamic spine is a key to health and longevity. What you may not know is that finding the back of your body, and playing with the support of your spine, may actually help you park your car and live your life by helping you find your own rear view mirror.
Together we will play with the interweaving of the front body and the back body. You will leave each class feeling longer (if not also taller). And you’ll find the support you need behind you to move forward (and back!) in space with ease.
This class is appropriate for all levels, especially those who want to get behind their practice and explore deeply.
Drop in: $12. All 3 classes for $30

My role, both as a yoga teacher and as a bodyworker is to hold a safe and sacred space; the two practices are interwoven.  Beyond the simple invitation to breathe, relax, soften, and let go, I am there as a presence and a witness. No matter how deep you go, what angels and demons you encounter, and what grief or joy you find deep in the layers of your being, here is another to guide you towards solid ground, to call you back from the edge in your infinite wholeness, and to celebrate you as dance out in the world. By creating this container—in the context of a class or in the ceremony of a private session—you are held in spacious softness which allows you to more easily let go and create new ways of moving in your body in the world. Having been held in this experience, you can begin to craft the container for yourself, seamlessly interweaving your practice and your life.

It is my honor and my delight to create this space with you.

Yoga Classes Descriptions

Healing Arts Yoga--Invest in a 4-week Session (or stop in for one class) to deeply explore themes such as grounding and core, structure and alignment, the elements in the body, and more.  Drawing on Polarity and Cranial Sacral Therapies and the foundations of yoga, this class will help you deepen (or even start!) your yoga practice, develop self-care tools for your own health and healing, and apply these same tools out into your daily life.   Become your own body-worker and step into the healer that you are by using asana, the breath, and props made of simple everyday objects. Reduce pain, fatigue, and stress as you rediscover your inner knowing. Develop and direct your focus inward to deeply calm and restore your nervous system and unfold your own body-wisdom.

Less Is More: Yoga for Your Nervous System—Taking the physical practice of yoga beyond the ideas of strength and flexibility to the very network of neurons that inform our experience, Yoga for Your Nervous System offers an integrative and deeply nourishing class to restore and renew your being from the inside out. Creating safe and sacred class space allows your personal practice to evolve to fit your needs. We use breath, sound, flowing and supported poses, free movement, and imagery to explore the radical idea that less is more. Improved ease and awareness in the body, increased clarity and focus, deeper sleep, and respite from the world, only begin to describe what this class may bring to you.

Yoga Stretch—Your early morning cup of prana. Yoga Stretch is an invigorating and fun-filled class designed to be the best part of waking up. Emphasizing movement over static postures, we use breath, sound, exploration, gradual stretches, and flowing yoga postures to enliven the body, the breath, the mind, and the spirit. Not only do students report leaving class more energized, awake, focused, calm, and joyful, each class comes with prana-licious alternative-coffee-breaks to spice up your life and perk up your day.

Longer Workshops for Living In the Body In the World

Knowing When Take Your Whole Self Out (Yoga for Sleep, Rest, Renewal, and Healing): Insomnia, nervous tension, too little time for sleep, and the expectation that we must do more often leave us at a loss as to how to come to rest. In this workshop we will practice self-care tools to recreate and cultivate sound sleep and deep rest whenever you need renewal and rejuvenation. We will start by arriving in time and space and reconnecting with our bodies. Then, we will practice simple and playful movements to discharge and rebalance the nervous system. Having clearly arrived, we will nurture ourselves with touch, sound, and movement, before finally sinking into the stillness of deep relaxation. Drawing from Polarity Therapy, Ayurveda, and the practice of Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) we will leave this evening prepared to rest deeply and fully when we most need it. We will step out of the rush of the world so that we can bring our whole selves back out into the world.

Placing Your Whole Self In (Yoga for Awakening, Enlivening, and Engaging the Day): Enlightenment is only one possible side benefit to a practice to cultivate body and energy awareness, clarify daily intention and focus, and clear out the cobwebs of the night. In this morning workshop, we will take the renewal of deep rest and transform it into the passionate energy of living. Transitioning from stillness into breath and sound, we will build postures and moving meditation into skilful actions out in the world. Be prepared to have fun, reenergize, and discover what life is all about.

Embodying the Change You Wish to See in the World—Connecting to and Caring for the Body as a Vehicle for Change.
Gandhi’s oft quoted line, “Be the change you wish to see in the world” inspires activists, peace-makers, environmentalists, caregivers, and change makers of all kinds. As movers and shakers in the world, how often do we take the time to ground into the wisdom of the body as a place for renewal, inspiration, and change? Embodying the Change You Wish to See in the World is a chance to experience and become peace from the inside out. Drawing on body-mind-spirit practices like yoga, play, clowning, Brain-Gym, and more we explore simple tools to refresh and renew the whole being so that we can truly embody the change we wish to see in the world. First presented as a breakout session at the Building A Culture of Peace Conference (May, 2007) in Santa Fe, NM these tools are equally adaptive to short “coffee break” sessions, longer focus groups, or special longer classes to start, enliven, or end the day.

Workshops and Series in Development:

Bringing Forth New Life: Yoga for Being Born--As light waxes and wanes, we each begin dreaming with the seeds that become in us new life. The physical act of pregnancy is but one manifestation of the dance between will and surrender that is involved any time we are gestating a new idea or a new life. New parents, parents to be, and anyone carrying the baby of dreams and new life—be that body, mind, or spirit—will benefit from this series. We will find and deepen our own strength to move through and ground into the intensity of the birth process, and we will practice softening into the great mystery that is the life that carries us. Though appropriate for pregnant women, this is not specifically a prenatal class. Men, women, mothers, fathers, elders, and youth are all welcome.
